The SAT is composed of 10 sections.

• One - 25 minute essay
• Six - 25 minute sections testing mathematics, critical reading, and writing skills
• Two - 20 minute sections, also testing mathematics, critical reading, and/or writing skills
• One - 10 minute writing section in multiple-choice format

The 25 and 20 minute mathematics, critical reading, and writing skill sections are in multiple-choice format. One of the 25-minute sections is ungraded and is used to test students’ responses to future SAT questions.
