Since the ACT helps to determine your college admission eligibility, it is important that you score as high as possible. Your test scores are, in effect, your “letter of introduction” to colleges. Many students choose to take the ACT for the first time during their junior year of high school so that they can re-take it during the fall of their senior year if they so choose.
To determine if you should re-take your test, you may wish to check the national rank into which your score falls. This is provided in your score report. If, for example, your national rank is listed as 62, then this means that you did as well as or better than 62 percent of recent graduates who took the ACT. If your national rank seems fairly low, you may wish to study and re-take your test.
You may also wish to see if your colleges of choice list preferred or average ACT scores for their applicants, and check how yours compares.
If you’ve got time, trying to improve your scores may very well be worth your while. After all, this is your future we’re talking about! By following a step-by-step study program such as Club Z!’s, many students achieve significantly higher scores when they retake the ACT, greatly improving their chances of getting into their colleges of choice.
