At Club Z! of St. Louis, we have created a four-step process for 'transformational' tutoring:

1) Homework
. By making sure your student is prepared for class the next day, we help him improve his grade and his understanding of the next day's material.

2) Tests/Quizzes. We help prepare for the weekly quizzes and the big tests that arise during a course.

3) Repair. We go back over material that has been missed, filling in the gaps that lead to difficulty understanding the new material.

4) Work Ahead. By moving forward through the curriculum and introducing upcoming ideas, we transform your child into the kind of student who puts up her hand, asks questions, and anticipates the material to come.

Club Z! has also created curriculums to help students with several common issues. These include:

ACT/SAT Test Preparation
Our diagnostic test allows students to discover their weak areas within each subject area, and work only with those areas where they need help. Other programs will have the students sit in a class where they might, or might not, spend the day on the material they need. By narrowly targeting the weak areas, we accomplish more in a shorter amount of time, and more economically.

Kindergarten Readiness
A program designed by early-childhood educators to help preschoolers get prepared for kindergarten. Activities focus on learning the letters, numbers and colors, improving fine- and gross-motor skills, and making comparisons. It even comes with a backpack filled with materials for the student to use and keep!

Learning Built to Last
The Middle School Program and the High School Program were both created to address the most common parent question we faced: How can I help my child develop good study habits and organizational skills? The tutor leads the student through activities designed specifically to teach study habits and organizational skills one at a time, so that they become a permanent part of the student's abilities. Parents that have used this program have been amazed at the change in their children in a very short amount of time.

High School Reading
We all know reading is crucial for success in today's world, but the focus in the popular media has been on elementary reading. This course concentrates on the deeper issues of reading and communication, helping students derive a deeper meaning and understanding from a variety of text styles. The ability to read for meaning improves results in every class a student takes, and becomes a valuable life skill in the process.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What subjects does Club Z! tutor?
We tutor every subject imaginable, from kindergarten readiness up to college-level material.

What experience do your tutors have?
All of our tutors are certified teachers or degreed professionals working in the fields they are tutoring in.

Do you use college students for your tutors, like some of the 'learning centers'?
We use only adults with bachelor's degrees, or exceptional students with a strong expertise in a chosen subject (such as Organic chemistry).

Will my child be placed in a class with other students like at the 'learning centers'?
All our tutoring is done one-on-one in the home. We do occasionally offer small-group tutoring sessions, usually at a substantial discount over our full rate and in a group studying the same subject, such as a foreign language or ACT test preparation.

Do you really come to my home?
We can work at a library if you prefer, but we really do come to your house on a schedule convenient to you. Besides school, home is where most students learn, so we prefer to work in the place where the students already do their work and study.

Do I have to be home when you're here?
Any student under 18 must be chaperoned by an adult, but you will be free to do whatever you wish during the tutoring session. Many of our parents use that time to catch up on some office work, and others use it to get dinner ready for the family.

What are your rates?
Our rates vary based on the student's age and grade level, and the subject being tutored. We not only offer the best value for tutoring in St. Louis, but our rates are among the lowest. We encourage you to call around and compare, because we're confident you'll choose us. Call us at 314-726-0044 to get specific information on the rate for your child, and to set up a free in-home consultation.

My child is very bright, but just can't seem to get his organization skills together. He loses work he's completed before the teacher can get it, and his grades suffer as a result. Can you help with this?
All of our tutors help the students work with organization and good study habits. For those kids wtih particular difficulty with this, we do offer a Club Z!-created curriculum called "Learning Built to Last." This program has simple lessons your child works on with a tutor, adding a new organizational technique or study skill to his tool kit after each session.

My child has been tested as "gifted," but her grades don't match her abilities. Does tutoring help?
We have several gifted-certified and experienced teachers on our staff, and they all say that gifted kids are very good at compensating for a weak skill or two. We've worked with many kids who, although smart, needed some remediation in certain areas in order to acheive their full potential.

My child receives special educational services at school. Why does he need a tutor?
Special needs children often need additional reinforcement of the material taught at school, and a special education-certified teacher can do this better than anyone else.
